Resorts on south side of the island
We begin our walk through Hvar resorts in lagoons on the south side of the island, east of city of Hvar. All lagoons are expressly sunny, which gives them special atmosphere and all are surrounded by vineyards and olive orchards.
Visiting untouched lagoons around Hvar plays a great role in enjoying your holidays. These can be reached by car, bicycle, or inspiring walks through the Mediterranean landscape. You can swim in almost every lagoon, which usually has restaurant or refreshment corner of some kind.
On the south side of Hvar are following lagoons:
Mekićevica (2,5 km far)
Milna (4 km far)
Zaraće (6,5 km far)
Dubovica (8 km far)
Pišćena (8,5 km far)
On the same, southern side of the island there are Sveta Nedilja, and Jagodna that are best accessed by car or bus since these villages are reached through the tunnel next to village of Pitve (near Jelsa).
Mekićevica is situated in a Hvar’s immediate proximity (only 2.5km east of city). It has two pebble beaches and white rock beach (“Bilo punta”), ideal for those who want to enjoy the harshness of Hvar’s sun. There is a restaurant. Lagoon can be accessed by boat or by foot.
Milna is situated 4 km east of city of Hvar. There are two pebble beaches, and a woody and gentle coast where pine-trees, agaves, vineyards and orchards overgrow. Next to Milna lagoon there are two other woody lagoons; Malo and Veliko Borče. Milna is one the oldest Hvar resorts, established at the very beginnings of tourism in Hvar, and its particularly country atmosphere is punctuated by an old villa of the noble family Ivanić (today owned by family Božić-Fio) from 17th century. There are several restaurants in Milna. There is an organised transportation by boat from Hvar port, and it is also reachable by car or foot.
There is a long lagoon with a wide pebble beach beneath a small, abandoned village of Zaraće, situated on the very top of rocky cliff resembling a pirates' stronghold. We point out to the lovers of deep waters that in these parts of Hvar picturesque submarine scenery is found. There are several restaurants. Zaraće can be accessed by boat or car.
A favourite Hvar resort, situated 8 km east of city, with large pebble beach and beautiful submarine scenery. Like Milna, Dubovica has a long pastoral tradition, too. There is a restaurant. Dubovica can be accessed by boat or car.
Pišćena is situated 8 km east of Hvar, and it has a pebble beach and thick pine woods. There is a restaurant. Daily trips to Pišćena are organised from Hvar port.
A settlement and a resort (12 km east of Hvar) which is best accessed by car. There are beautiful pebble beaches and numerous restaurants and B&Bs.
Jagodna (Bojanića bad)
Somewhat more distant resort (about 13 km east of Hvar) that can accessed only by car, with beautiful beach and several restaurants and B&Bs.
